Michigan Supreme Court has ruled: Donald Trump can remain on the presidential ballot in the state

The Michigan Supreme Court announced that it would not hear the appeal of a lower court case seeking to remove Trump from the state's primary ballot.

In its ruling, the court noted that it was "not persuaded that the questions presented should be reviewed by this Court."

In September, a group had filed a lawsuit in Michigan alleging that Trump was ineligible to participate in the presidential race in the state on the grounds that he had engaged in "insurrection and rebellion" during the January 6 Capitol events, in violation of the 14th Amendment of the Constitution.

However, the judge presiding over the case had ruled that state laws did not grant election officials any discretion to oversee the eligibility of presidential primary candidates, and further stated that the case raised a political question that should not be decided by the courts.

The decision, which was in favor of Trump in the lower court, had been appealed to the Michigan Supreme Court.

With the Michigan Supreme Court's refusal to hear the case, the debate over whether Trump can appear on the election ballots in this state has been closed.

Meanwhile, on December 19, the Colorado Supreme Court ruled in a similar case that former President Trump could not participate in the presidential race in that state on the grounds that he had engaged in "insurrection and rebellion" during the January 6 Capitol riot.
