No more smoking in open spaces: Here is the city that introduced the ban!

In Italy's financial and fashion capital, Milan, smoking in public areas has been banned as of today. The decision, taken to improve air quality, is part of an environment-focused initiative launched in 2021. Those who violate the ban will face fines ranging from 40 to 240 euros.

The Milan City Council had introduced gradual bans as part of the air quality regulations it adopted in 2020. In the first phase, smoking was banned in parks, playgrounds, bus stops, and sports facilities in 2021. The new regulation prohibits smoking in all public areas, including streets.

E-CIGARETTES EXCLUDED

While the new ban does not cover electronic cigarettes, there is an exception for "isolated areas" for those who wish to smoke. However, individuals smoking in an isolated area must maintain a distance of at least 10 meters from those around them.
