Erdoğan's statement on Syria: '61 years of Baath dictatorship...'

In Syria, the government was toppled under the leadership of the jihadist Salafist organization HTS, and the 61-year Baath regime has come to an end. Following these developments, AKP President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made statements at his party's Extended Provincial Heads Meeting at the AKP Congress Center.

Evaluating the events in Syria, Erdoğan used the following expressions:

"The Syrian people have claimed their freedom, rights, law, and future by tearing down a regime of oppression that has lasted for decades. They have, thank God, crowned a noble uprising with victory. After 61 years of Baath dictatorship, the last 13 years of which were absolute pitch darkness, Syria has reached bright days. The heads of terrorist organizations such as DAESH, PKK, and PYD in other parts of the country will also be crushed as soon as possible. 'WE HAVE MADE GREAT SACRIFICES'

Syria belongs to the Syrians, with all its belief groups and ethnic segments. We hope that the pains experienced in the past will illuminate the path to a strong Syria in the future. I find it useful to make this reminder to everyone who has their eyes on Syrian territory. As Turkey, we have made great sacrifices for Syria to reach this level. We did this with pleasure, not by complaining.

We cannot allow Syria's territory to be divided once again. We cannot accept any provocation aimed at preventing them from returning to their homes. We cannot accept any provocation that would hinder the brotherly people from returning to their homes. We will not remain spectators to those who, with the courage they receive from the powers they lean on, try to set the region on fire.

We want security for everyone, peace and prosperity for everyone. I congratulate the brotherly Syrian people once again for this magnificent revolution. We will stand by those Syrians in our country who are preparing to return to their homes, just as we have done here. We will not bow to the provocations of the CHP, the reasons for which we know very well. No one should take offense; we will not allow 3-5 conscience-deprived fascists who are against the hospitality that Turkey and the Turkish nation have shown as an example to humanity to cast a shadow over it."
