Mansur Yavaş reveals: Messages sent saying 'Do not ask for anything from the municipality'
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, in a statement regarding the cleaning support provided to schools, pointed out the importance of cooperation in education, noting that some school principals have turned down aid coming from the municipality.
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş responded to allegations reflected in the press regarding cleaning supplies and services provided to schools. Yavaş stated that out of 271 schools that made requests, 113 withdrew their requests, and that messages were sent to school principals saying, "Do not ask for anything from the municipality."
In his statement made within the scope of the 27th International Beypazarı Festival, Yavaş stated that the municipality is always ready to help ensure that children receive education in hygienic and healthy environments, and emphasized that they will continue to provide cleaning supplies and services.
'WE ARE WILLING TO CLEAN THE SCHOOLS'
Stating that the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality provides cleaning supplies and services to schools that request hygiene support, Mansur Yavaş made the following statement:
"We are not providing toxic food or anything like that. We are providing cleaning supplies. Furthermore, we are willing to clean the schools. We find it strange that such an event has been brought to the national agenda to this extent. We are ready to cooperate with all institutions, as long as children receive education in a clean and safe environment."
Yavaş, expressing that some school principals have turned down the municipality's cleaning services, added the following:
"In one school in Keçiören, while the second floor was being cleaned, officials came and said 'Stop,' and one floor remained uncleaned. We have been meeting cleaning requests from schools since 2019. To date, we have provided 154 million liras in support. However, requests from the Ministry of National Education remain limited."
'CHILDREN'S HEALTH IS OUR PRIORITY'
Mansur Yavaş stated that materials have been delivered to 232 of the 925 schools provided with hygiene and cleaning support, and that all requests will be met by the weekend.
However, stating that 113 out of 271 schools have withdrawn their cleaning requests in recent days, Yavaş said, “I suppose the school principals will clean them themselves. Children receiving education in a healthy environment should be everyone's priority.”
Yavaş emphasized that the Ministry of National Education should provide cleaning services in schools without disruption, and reiterated that as a municipality, they are always ready to cooperate with educational institutions.
