Milei wins presidential election in Argentina

Milei wins presidential election in Argentina

The "Peronist" alliance candidate and current Minister of Economy Sergio Massa received 44.17 percent of the votes.

Union for the Homeland candidate Massa conceded defeat and announced that he had called his rival Milei by phone to congratulate him on his electoral success.

Stating that the results were far from his expectations, Massa said, "I called and congratulated Milei because the Argentines chose him for the next 4 years. In doing so, I conveyed to him that the most important thing, amidst so many difficulties, is respect for coexistence, dialogue, and peace."

Emphasizing that the Argentine people have chosen a different path, Massa assessed, "From tomorrow, all responsibility for political and economic operations belongs to the president-elect. Today, Argentina has confirmed that it has a strong, robust, and transparent democratic system that respects results."

It was noted that the voter turnout for the election was 76 percent.
