The acceptance speech by Minnesota Governor Tim Walz also served as his first "address to the nation."

The 60-year-old politician noted that while he had never given a "big speech" before, he frequently gave "pep talks" when he was a high school football coach.

Walz said, "We've got 76 days. That's nothing. There's time to sleep when you're dead. We're going to leave it all on the field. That's how we're going to move forward and close the book on Donald Trump."

Walz compared the US presidential election, scheduled for November 5, to a football game. Emphasizing that the Democratic Party is trailing by a small margin, the politician added, "but we're on offense and we've got the ball."

During the speech, the audience cheered for the Democratic vice-presidential nominee with chants of "coach."
