Malian-born French singer Aya Nakamura has become the target of racist attacks following reports that she might perform at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Far-right groups have reacted to the singer's potential participation in the Olympics, arguing that she "does not represent France."
A far-right group called Les Natifs unfurled a banner in the capital that altered Nakamura's lyrics, reading, "Not possible, Aya, this is Paris, not a Bamako market."
The famous singer responded to the attacks against her in a post on her X account, stating, "You can be racist, but not deaf."
'FULL SUPPORT' STATEMENT
The Olympic Organizing Committee stated that they were "shocked by the racist attacks against Aya Nakamura," expressing their full support for "one of the most listened-to French artists in the world."
French Minister of Sports Amelie Oudea-Castera addressed Nakamura, saying, "It doesn't matter, people love you. Don't worry about anything."
According to a BFMTV poll, more than 60 percent of French people believe that Nakamura performing at the Olympics is "not a good idea."
The 28-year-old famous singer has songs with nearly one billion streams on YouTube alone.
