Müjdat Gezen celebrates his 71st year in the arts with friends

Master artist Müjdat Gezen’s 71st year in the arts was celebrated with a special program at the Caddebostan Cultural Center. The event, which featured a screening of a documentary about Müjdat Gezen and a talk, was attended by the master artist’s family, friends, numerous famous figures, his students, and his fans.

The 71st year in the artistic career of Müjdat Gezen, a doyen of Turkish theater who has produced countless works since he first stepped onto the stage at the age of 10, was celebrated with an event organized by the Kadıköy Municipality.

The event held at the Caddebostan Cultural Center was attended by Müjdat Gezen himself, his wife Leyla Gezen, historian İlber Ortaylı, his artist friends Kandemir Konduk and Orhan Aydın, as well as instructors, students, and fans from the Müjdat Gezen Art Center.

The narrators of the Müjdat Gezen documentary shown during the program included his family and childhood friends, as well as his friends Perran Kutman, Uğur Dündar, Kandemir Konduk, Zülfü Livaneli, Türkan Şoray, Mustafa Alabora, Cüneyt Arkın, Orhan Aydın, Erol Evgin, Temel Gürsu, Türker İnanoğlu, Cem Yılmaz, Emre Kongar, İlker Başbuğ, Sadun Aksüt, Celal Ülgen, Özden İnönü Toker and his students Demet Akbağ, Erkan Can, Yasemin Yalçın, Şevket Çoruh, Ezgi Mola, Alper Kul, Günay Karacaoğlu, İlker Ayrık, Gonca Vuslateri, Çağlar Çorumlu, Şebnem Bozoklu, Kıvanç Tiner, Dolunay Soysert, Meltem Taşkıran and Barış Dinçel.

Speaking at the program dedicated to Müjdat Gezen’s 71st year in the arts, Kadıköy Mayor Şerdil Dara Odabaşı said:

“Müjdat Gezen, who has always stood by the truth, the righteous, and the oppressed; who, at 80 years old, has not taken a single step back from the struggle to ensure democracy in our country that we love more than life itself; and who has led the citizens and youth of this country with his character and steadfast stance, has always illuminated our path. He has illuminated it by never compromising on what he knows to be true, no matter the cost, and he will continue to do so."
