The application to open Cem Garipoğlu's grave has been accepted.
The statement regarding the matter came from the Karabulut family's lawyer, Rezan Epözdemir.
DNA SAMPLES WILL BE TAKEN FROM THE GRAVE
According to the information provided by Epözdemir, the Karabulut family's request to open Cem Garipoğlu's grave was accepted by the Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Accordingly, Cem Garipoğlu's grave will be opened, DNA samples will be taken, and it will be clarified through comparative examinations whether the buried body belongs to Garipoğlu.

"As you are aware, we have been following the file regarding the brutal and savage murder of Münevver Karabulut for approximately 15 years as the attorney for the victim's family. The Münevver Karabulut murder is an extremely important and precedent-setting case in terms of social awareness and intellectual follow-up regarding violence against women and femicides in Turkey. In this context, we most recently requested that Cem Garipoğlu's grave be opened and the exhumation process be carried out in accordance with Article 87/4 of the Criminal Procedure Code (C.M.K). Upon the request of our client Süreyya Karabulut, we have implemented an effective legal process on this issue, especially over the last two years. At the point we have reached, the Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office accepted our request, decided to open Cem Garipoğlu's grave and perform the exhumation, and an instruction was written to the Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding this matter. This mystery, which has been the most frequently asked question wherever we go for years—in universities, panels, seminars, print and visual media, and social media—and which our public has not been significantly convinced about, will thus be resolved. As a result of our legal struggle that has been ongoing for years, this decision made by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is extremely important and gratifying. I thank the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on behalf of my client family. The exhumation process and the legal process will be effectively followed by us for the relief of the public conscience and the emergence of the material truth. I respectfully submit the necessity to the information of the public."
