Call for investigation into Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi in the US: Harsh criticism of the US administration

US Representative Pramila Jayapal has directed harsh criticism at the US administration regarding the killing of activist Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi by Israeli soldiers during a peaceful demonstration in the occupied West Bank. 

Jayapal emphasized that more than a month has passed since Eygi's death, yet the Washington administration has not launched an independent investigation.

CALL FOR AN INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION

In a written statement, Jayapal stated that the lack of response regarding the killing of US citizens by Israeli soldiers is unacceptable. 

Jayapal argued that an independent investigation must be launched immediately into the killing of Eygi and the Israeli military's use of live ammunition against peaceful protesters.

NOT ISRAEL'S FIRST CASE

Recalling that Israeli forces have killed US citizens before, Jayapal noted that Rachel Corrie also lost her life in the West Bank in 2003, and that demands for an independent investigation at that time also went unanswered.

Jayapal pointed out that 3 US citizens have been killed in the West Bank alone in 2024.

DEMANDS FOR SANCTIONS FROM THE US

Bringing up the military aid the US provides to Israel, Jayapal stated that some military aid should be halted if Tel Aviv does not comply with international law. Stating that the US government must demand accountability on this issue, Jayapal reiterated that an investigation into Eygi's death must be initiated.

THE KILLING OF AYŞENUR EZGİ EYGİ

Israeli soldiers opened fire on participants during a peaceful demonstration in the West Bank, and Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, who also held US citizenship, was shot in the head and critically wounded.

Eygi, who was there to support Palestinians, was taken to the hospital and passed away on September 6. Eygi was a human rights activist and a member of the International Solidarity Movement who supported the Palestinian cause through peaceful means.
