Protest at the university of murdered Ayşenur Halil: 'We want justice, not palaces of justice'
University friends of Ayşenur Halil, a second-year Media and Visual Arts student at Medipol University who was murdered alongside İkbal Uzuner by the killer Semih Çelik, held a protest.
Medipol University students gathered at the Beykoz campus to protest the murders of Ayşenur Halil and İkbal Uzuner. Chanting slogans such as "Rights, law, justice" and "Do not stay silent, if you stay silent, your turn will come," the students unfurled a banner reading, "We want justice, not palaces of justice."
'SHARING DESKS WITH AYŞENUR DEEPENS OUR PAIN'
According to the report in T24, the students, who carried signs in both Turkish and English, made the following statement:
"The fact that we shared desks with Ayşenur in particular deepens our pain and compels us to continue this struggle even more loudly. As students, we felt a responsibility to cry out our pain even though we have no authority. We hope that those who actually hold the authority will now feel a sense of responsibility and take action. Today, we are not just talking about the murder of these two young women. We are talking about the fact that women are being murdered in this country every single day. We reject this system that causes femicides."

STATEMENT FROM THE UNIVERSITY
The university administration had made the following post after the incident:
"The passing of our Media and Visual Arts Department second-year student Ayşenur Halil, who lost her life as a result of a brutal incident in Eyüpsultan, has deeply saddened us all. Losing our student, who was in the prime of her life, in such a tragic way has horrified us, just as it has all of Turkey. We wish God's mercy upon our dear student, and offer our patience and condolences to her family, her fellow students, and all her loved ones. Dear Ayşenur, we will always remember you with longing and love."
