CHP Group Deputy Chairman Gökhan Günaydın made a statement following the arrest of Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer and called on the public to take to the streets.

Günaydın used the following expressions in his statement:

Mr. Ahmet Özer has a response to give regarding this attempt to prepare an assassination of his reputation. How many other CHP mayors are you conducting such operations against besides our Esenyurt Mayor?

You must explain whether there are such efforts targeting political parties other than the CHP.

Information began to surface in the pro-government press that a trustee had been appointed; the pro-government press announced the news of a trustee.

The Governor's Office announced that there was no such thing.

The Minister of Interior said that no such action had been taken, but stated that they would look at the process following a potential arrest decision. We are facing an operation carried out through the instrumentalization of the law, an assassination of our municipality's reputation.

From this moment on, all of our party's members of parliament are coming to Istanbul; the party's Central Executive Board (MYK) will gather in front of the Esenyurt Municipality tomorrow with an extraordinary decision.

We will not allow you to design Turkey through the courts; we will make these conspiracies blow up in your faces. You will see that no CHP mayor is alone.

I invite all our people to take to the streets and exercise their constitutional rights. We are calling on our people to come to the Çağlayan Courthouse now, and to the front of the Esenyurt Municipality tomorrow.
