TKP reacts to the arrest of Ahmet Özer: The AKP's trustee policy must be ended

CHP Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer was detained at his home in the morning on charges of "being a member of the PKK/KCK armed terrorist organization."

Searches were conducted at Özer's home and at the municipal building.

In a statement issued by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigation Bureau, it was stated that the detention order was issued within the scope of an "investigation conducted to identify the members and activities of the terrorist organization PKK/KCK," and that it was determined that Özer "committed the alleged crime by establishing an organic connection with organization leaders in a dense and continuous manner, based on conversation transcripts obtained as a result of communication interception measures, physical surveillance reports, and bank account movements."

Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer, who was detained as part of the "membership in a terrorist organization" investigation, was referred to the courthouse.

It was learned that searches were also carried out at Özer's home and at the Esenyurt Municipality.

In the evening, Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer was arrested by the duty magistrate on charges of being a member of the PKK armed terrorist organization.

The Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) reacted to the events in a post on its social media accounts.

"The accusations regarding the detained Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer were leaked to the press by the prosecutor. The accusations brought against a mayor who has not even been in office for a year do not in any way hide the true target of this move, which reeks of politics. All forms of intervention by the AKP against local governments must be stopped, and the trustee policy must be ended."
