Discount introduced for credit card payments in Istanbul public transport
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) has announced a 33.33 percent discount on payments made via credit cards, debit cards, or prepaid cards for public transport vehicles in the city during the UKOME meeting.

At the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME) meeting, a 33.33 percent discount was introduced on the amounts charged for payments made via credit card, debit card, or prepaid card in the city's public transport vehicles.
The UKOME meeting was held at the Çırpıcı Social Facilities under the chairmanship of IBB Deputy Secretary General Buğra Gökce.
During the meeting, the issue of high fees charged for payments made via credit card, debit card, or prepaid card in the city's public transport vehicles was discussed.
In the discussion, it was addressed that for payments made with these cards, excluding the Istanbul Kart, the fare on bus, ferry, metro, and tram lines was 30 liras instead of 15 liras, and 60 liras instead of 22.25 liras on the Metrobus, and a reduction was proposed.
In this context, a 33.33 percent discount was applied, and it was requested that the fare for payments made via credit card, debit card, or prepaid card be reduced from 30 liras to 20 liras on bus, ferry, metro, and tram lines, and from 60 liras to 40 liras on the Metrobus.
The agenda item was accepted unanimously in the vote held in this form.
The tariff change will be effective as of November 1.
DEADLINE FOR CONVERSION TO 8+1 TAXIS EXTENDED UNTIL THE NEW YEAR
At the meeting, "taxi transportation requests" among the agenda items were also discussed.
In this context, to resolve the taxi problem in the city, the condition that "license plates cannot be sold within the first 3 years" for those who earned the right to convert from minibuses and shared taxis (dolmuş) to 8+1 taxis and completed their conversion was canceled.
Those who have not yet converted to 8+1 taxis were granted an extension until the new year.
Decisions regarding parking meter and pedestrianization projects were also taken at the meeting.
VEHICLE OWNERS WHO EARNED THE RIGHT TO CONVERT FROM MINIBUS TO TAXI STAGED A PROTEST
Meanwhile, while the UKOME meeting was ongoing, vehicle owners who had earned the right to convert from minibuses and shared taxis to 8+1 taxis staged a protest.
The group, stating that they could not earn money from 8+1 vehicles and demanding the return of the 4+1 taxi practice, reacted after the decision they expected did not emerge from the UKOME meeting.
The group members who tried to enter the hall where the meeting was held were prevented from entering by the intervention of police teams and security guards. During this time, some group members threw plastic bottles at the facility.
