Fatih Portakal reacts to Yunus Emre Geçti, the murderer of officer Şeyda Yılmaz, being forced to wear a black trash bag

Yunus Emre Geçti, who martyred 27-year-old Şeyda Yılmaz in Ümraniye, Istanbul, has been arrested by the court.

Footage of the murderer being taken to the courthouse in an animal transport vehicle while wearing a trash bag has become a major topic of discussion.

Sözcü TV Main News Bulletin Anchor Fatih Portakal reacted to the images in question.

Pointing out the murderer's 26 prior criminal records, Portakal said, "The man has records for drug use and trafficking. There is extortion, robbery, theft, child molestation, abuse, and murder. How can such a person be out on the streets? What else does this person need to do to be kept inside?"

Stating, "This man should not be released from prison," Portakal continued his remarks:

"Since we do not have the death penalty in our country, this man should not be released. Because prisons cannot rehabilitate. This man has been arrested, but we will see if he will be out again in 3 or 5 years.

"IS THIS WHAT SATISFIES YOU?"

And then, this murderer was forced to wear a trash bag. The message intended was 'you are trash.' Later, an animal transport vehicle was brought and he was put inside it; the message intended was 'you are not a human, you are an animal.'

Is this what satisfies you, Ministry of Interior? I am very curious. It became a topic on social media, and some people felt relieved, but do you know what I said when I first saw it? I spat in this guy's face once. I said shame on you, I said you couldn't even protect a woman.

"ARE WE A BANANA REPUBLIC?"

After that, if we are a state of law, is this how we should act? I asked, are we a banana republic? By doing this, the Ministry of Interior is actually trying to do the following: you have failed to prevent crime, you have failed to prevent individual armament, you have failed to prevent mafias.

In 22 years, you have created crime machines. You have not made those who commit crimes serve their full sentences, you have not rehabilitated them before releasing them from prison, and they continue to roam outside in one way or another.

In other words, the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Justice are using these images to cover up the state's shame. Then, this needs to be questioned; does this happen in a state of law?"
