Investigation concluded: Cause of death for Korhan Berzeg could not be determined
The investigation conducted by the Council of Forensic Medicine regarding the cause of death of economist Korhan Berzeg has been completed. As a result of the investigation, Berzeg's cause of death could not be determined. It was emphasized that the investigation into Korhan Berzeg, whose cause of death remains undetermined, will continue.

After working as an Asia Director at the World Bank for a period, Korhan Berzeg retired and began living in his home on Büyükada in Istanbul. In May 2023, he came to his hometown for a vacation with his wife, Angela Berzeg, at their house in the rural Armutlu Neighborhood of the Gönen district in Balıkesir.
On June 17, Korhan Berzeg went for a walk with his specially trained Doberman dog, 'Tina', and could not be reached afterward.
NEW DEVELOPMENT AFTER 312 DAYS
When Berzeg did not return, his wife Angela Berzeg reported him missing to the gendarmerie. Berzeg could not be located despite searches conducted by air and land over a total area of 325 kilometers.
A new development regarding economist Korhan Berzeg occurred after 312 days.
It was learned that Gülay had gone to the stream due to a problem with the water line coming into the neighborhood.
During the crime scene investigation, the following items were found: a torn brown wallet inside the pocket of trousers with shredded cuffs, 3 credit cards from different banks issued in the name of Korhan Berzeg, 1 bank card, a shredded Istanbul free public transport card, an Istanbul Blue card, a driver's license and ID card also issued in the name of Korhan Berzeg, 5 banknotes of 10 TL (one of which was torn), 1 banknote of 100 TL, 1 banknote of 50 TL, 1 vehicle key, and various other keys.
The clothing, materials, and bones found were collected for examination.
Bone fragments, which had no tissue on them and were evaluated to belong to the hip and rib cage, were sent to the Istanbul Council of Forensic Medicine Presidency.
During this process, a blood sample was taken from his daughter, Nisa Berzeg. The examination revealed that the DNA from the bone fragments matched the blood sample taken from his daughter. Thus, it was confirmed that Korhan Berzeg had died 316 days after he went missing.
As part of the ongoing search efforts, a skull and some other bones determined to belong to Korhan Berzeg were also found. It was revealed that all bone fragments, consisting of a total of 12 pieces, belonged to Berzeg.
CAUSE OF DEATH COULD NOT BE DETERMINED
According to the report in Hürriyet, it was learned that the examination of the bone fragments at the Istanbul Council of Forensic Medicine to determine the cause of Berzeg's death has been completed.
It was stated that the cause of Berzeg's death could not be determined from the bones, which had no tissue on them. Officials said that the bones would be delivered to the Berzeg family through the Public Prosecutor's Office with a report to be prepared in the coming days.
Meanwhile, it was reported that the investigation into Korhan Berzeg, whose cause of death could not be determined, will continue.
It was announced that the gendarmerie, which will continue its investigations in the region, will evaluate all tips received.
