Investigation launched into avalanche in Palandöken

An avalanche disaster occurred in Erzurum's Palandöken. 16-year-old athlete Emre Yazgan lost his life in the incident. Erzurum Governor Mustafa Çiftçi announced that an investigation has been launched into the event. 

Governor Çiftçi stated regarding the avalanche that fell on the athletes on Palandöken Mountain, "A judicial investigation into the incident has currently begun. Apart from that, we will also conduct an administrative investigation."

Making a statement in the avalanche zone on Palandöken Mountain, Çiftçi said that he visited the injured in hospitals following the incident and received information about their health status.

Stating that he received information from the chief physician that the health status of the injured at Erzurum City Hospital is good, Çiftçi noted that he later went to Atatürk University Research Hospital and received information that Emre Yazgan was being treated in intensive care and that doctors were using all medical resources.

Saying, "As of 14:30, I unfortunately have to share with sadness that our brother Emre Yazgan has passed away," Çiftçi stated that the condition of Emre's twin brother is quite good and that there are no issues or problems.

Wishing God's mercy upon Emre Yazgan and offering his condolences to his family and the sports community, Çiftçi continued as follows:

"I also visited the athletes' coaches. According to the information I received from him, they stated that our athletes had been in camp here for 4 days and would be camping here for another week. If this tragic incident had not occurred, they would have continued their camp here until next weekend. I also asked them how they determined the route. They told me, 'We have already known this region for 4-5 years. We have had conditioning walks and camps in this region in previous years as well. Therefore, since we know and are familiar with the region, we did not feel the need to get information from anywhere.'"
