Erzurum Governor Çiftçi: 16-year-old national athlete Emre Yazgan could not be saved

Erzurum Governor Çiftçi: 16-year-old national athlete Emre Yazgan could not be saved

An avalanche occurred while the Judo National Team was climbing in the Sultan Seki region during a high-altitude camp on Mount Palandöken in Erzurum.

Erzurum Governor Mustafa Çiftçi reported that a 16-year-old athlete who was trapped under the avalanche had lost his life.

Çiftçi stated, "Around 10 o'clock, our Judo Youth National Team, an 11-person group, went out for a nature hike, but an avalanche occurred at that time. 4 of our athletes were trapped under the avalanche. 3 of them managed to get out on their own, but our 16-year-old athlete lost his life." Governor Çiftçi identified the athlete who lost his life as 16-year-old Emre Yazgan.

MINISTRY OF HEALTH DENIED

Following the Governor's statement, the Ministry of Health issued a statement on its social media account denying the death of Emre Yazgan. The Ministry's statement included the following: "5 people were injured as a result of the avalanche that occurred at the Erzurum Palandöken Ski Center. The injured have been taken under treatment in our hospitals. The condition of our Judo National Team athlete Emre Yazgan remains serious, and his treatment continues in intensive care."
