Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu participates in electric metrobus test drive

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu participated in the test drive of an electric metrobus capable of carrying 420 passengers. Stating that they aim to increase the efficiency and comfort of the metrobus line, İmamoğlu said, "The metrobus is an important mode of transport for us, stretching from Avcılar to Söğütlüçeşme. The aspect of this vehicle that attracts us is its high passenger capacity of over 400."

Before the test drive at the IETT Edirnekapı Garage, Ekrem İmamoğlu made a statement to journalists, explaining that the Chinese-made, next-generation metrobus was brought to them through the joint efforts of IETT and Metro Istanbul.

İmamoğlu stated that following the vehicle's presentation, test drives have been conducted for over a month, and that both passenger-carrying and empty tests are ongoing.

'THE ASPECT THAT ATTRACTS US...'

Stating that they want to increase the efficiency and comfort of the metrobus line and reduce passenger congestion, İmamoğlu said, "The metrobus is an important mode of transport for us, stretching from Avcılar to Söğütlüçeşme. It has a daily capacity of over a million passengers. The aspect of this vehicle that attracts us is its high passenger capacity of over 400."

Expressing that they want to make the right choice for the people of Istanbul, İmamoğlu noted that their fundamental principles are sustainability and durability.

AVERAGE RANGE OF 50 KM WITH A 20-MINUTE CHARGE

IETT General Manager İrfan Demet also said that the electric metrobus provides 60 percent fuel savings compared to diesel metrobuses, creating 2.5 million lira in fuel savings per 100,000 kilometers.

Stating that they plan to prevent 300 tons of carbon dioxide emissions with this investment, Demet noted the following:

"Furthermore, the electric metrobus will operate quietly, preventing noise pollution in the city. The electric metrobus, which allows for bidirectional driving, is 40 meters long and has 4 carriages. Its passenger carrying capacity is 50 percent higher than the longest vehicle in the current metrobus fleet, with a capacity to carry 420 people.

The test vehicle has a range of approximately 80 kilometers. Thanks to its modular battery structure, more batteries can be added for a longer range. With 800 kilowatts of power, an average range of 50 kilometers can be achieved with a 20-minute charge."

In addition to İmamoğlu, Eyüpsultan Mayor Mithat Bülent Özmen and Avcılar Mayor Utku Caner Çaykara also participated in the test drive, which started at the Edirnekapı Garage and continued to the Avcılar Campus stop.
