Statement from IMM regarding 'new metrobus' bridge

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) has announced that the new pedestrian bridge support pillar placed on the metrobus route in Küçükçekmece, which had sparked controversy, will remain within the platform area once the project is completed.

In a written statement from the IMM, it was stated that the municipality has constructed a new 70-meter-long and 5-meter-wide pedestrian bridge at the Küçükçekmece station.

"NEW BRIDGE SUPPORT PILLAR WILL REMAIN WITHIN THE PLATFORM"

The statement, which provided information that the metrobus station will be expanded with the new project, noted the following:

"The metrobus route, the D-100 highway, and the side road will be shifted 450 meters toward the north in the direction of Edirne. As part of the work, road widening was carried out by constructing a 132-meter-long shaft foundation and retaining wall on Şehit Özgür Güven Street, located next to the northern side road. The new bridge support pillar currently located on the metrobus route will remain within the platform area when the project is completed."

BRIDGE SUPPORT PILLAR HAD CAUSED CONTROVERSY

The IMM began construction on the new pedestrian bridge on November 3, 2023, on the grounds that the pedestrian bridge and stairs at the Beşyol metrobus station were insufficient for passenger capacity.

During the construction, the fact that the pedestrian bridge support pillar was placed on the metrobus route, forcing buses to exit the metrobus lane and travel along the D-100 highway separated by traffic cones, had drawn criticism.
