On May 2, 2023, in Kadıköy, Mehmet Caymaz approached Cihan Aymaz (30) and requested a folk song. When Aymaz gave a negative response, an argument broke out between the two. Mehmet Caymaz (32) stabbed Cihan Aymaz in the chest with a knife he was carrying, causing his death. The investigation into Caymaz, who was arrested following the incident, has been completed.

ATTACKED WITH A POCKETKNIFE

In the indictment prepared by the Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was noted that Mehmet Caymaz approached the victim, put down the liquor bottle he was holding, and demanded that the victim, Cihan, play a song while shouting. After the victim told the suspect to calm down and that he would play the requested song, the suspect, Mehmet, pulled out a pocketknife he was carrying and began swearing. The indictment stated that Caymaz first wounded the victim by swinging the knife at his neck area and then at his chest, that the victim fell into the sea as a result of the suspect pushing him, and that Cihan Aymaz passed away at the hospital to which he was taken.

CLAIM OF SELF-DEFENSE DISMISSED

It was stated that the defense of suspect Mehmet Caymaz, who claimed he swung the knife to defend himself after being threatened at the scene by three people including the victim, was not credited as there were no witness accounts or footage from the scene to support this claim; therefore, it was evaluated that provisions for unjust provocation could not be applied in his favor.

LIFE IMPRISONMENT SOUGHT

In the indictment, it was requested that the detained defendant Mehmet Caymaz be sentenced to life imprisonment for the crime of 'intentional killing.' The indictment has been accepted by the court to which it was sent. The trial of the suspect will begin in the coming days.
