While there is essentially a state of war between Israel and Palestine, numerous videos and photos allegedly taken in these regions are circulating on social media.

Melih Gökçek also claimed in a post on his social media account that the image was taken in Palestine, but the truth turned out to be completely different.

The fact-checking platform Doğruluk Payı, which examined the post, announced that the photo was actually from a traffic accident in the Çorlu district of Tekirdağ.

The following statements were included in the investigation into the matter:

“It was claimed that a photo of a car wreck shared by a Twitter account on October 8, 2023, was taken during the Israel-Hamas conflict.

This claim, which is circulating on social media and spreading rapidly, alleges that the photo of the car wreck was taken during the Israel-Hamas conflict.

According to the claim, the vehicle was reduced to this state following an attack by Israeli soldiers on a Palestinian father and his child. The fact-checking of the claim is possible through reverse image search methods.

A search conducted this way shows that the accident photo in question belongs to a vehicle accident that occurred in Tekirdağ / Çorlu in 2016.

The accident occurred because a dump truck loaded with stone overturned onto the vehicle. In the accident that took place in the Önerler neighborhood of Çorlu, five people inside the vehicle and the driver of the truck were rescued with injuries.”
