Minister Tunç comments on the removal of the Hakkari Co-Mayor

Minister Tunç stated, "There is an ongoing case and also an investigation; the case is at the decision stage. He does not have a criminal record that prevents him from being elected; if there is a terrorism investigation against him, the Ministry of Interior has the authority to remove him from office."

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç made evaluations after the cabinet meeting regarding the removal of DEM Party Hakkari Municipality Co-Mayor Mehmet Sıddık Akış from office. 

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç said the following:

"There is an ongoing case and also an investigation; the case is at the decision stage. He was removed from office in accordance with the relevant article of the constitution and the law regarding municipalities, and a governor was appointed in his place.

He does not have a criminal record that prevents him from being elected; if there is a terrorism investigation against him, the Ministry of Interior has the authority to remove him from office. The Ministry of Interior deemed it appropriate.

It is a temporary suspension from duty and a temporary appointment in his place"
