Reaction to the US from the father of Ayşenur, killed by Israel: 'It tears into it like the eagle on its emblem'

Mehmet Suat Eygi, the father of Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, a Turkish and US citizen who was murdered by Israeli soldiers, made a statement to members of the press at his home in Didim.

Mehmet Suat Eygi, who made the statement alongside his brother Yılmaz Eygi in a house adorned with Turkish flags, appeared exhausted.

Father Eygi said, "Ayşenur was a very extraordinary person. Our state did not let this arbitrary murder go. I learned the results later, and I was very happy. I hope I expect the same thing from the American government. Because when Ayşe went to America, she was 10 months old. She grew up with the freedoms there. She is a citizen of that country, so the American government also has a responsibility. I hope the American government will show the same sensitivity."

When asked about his last meeting with his daughter, Eygi said, "We last met at Seattle Airport. I do not want to answer the other parts." Answering questions about the funeral process, father Eygi said, "The District Governor, thank you, has shown great interest. He informed us about every issue. Tomorrow morning, it will first be in Istanbul, and then in Izmir. The funeral will take place on Saturday," he said.

When asked about the statements made by the US President and other US officials, Mehmet Suat Eygi said, "The US is a somewhat strange country. Wherever in the world there is an injustice or the killing of its own citizen, America tears into it like the eagle on its emblem. But when the subject is Israel, there can be more of an effort to brush it aside. But I want to believe that they will look at people's conscience. Other things may be said for the sake of politics, but human conscience will pull these things to where they need to be."

When asked if he had a meeting with President Erdoğan, Eygi said, "I was not in a condition to meet on the day we learned about the incident. They tried to reach me, but I could not meet."

"SHE HAD AN IDEALISTIC NATURE"

Explaining that his daughter Ayşenur was an idealistic person, Eygi said, "Of course, this is also a bit about her nature. Since her birth, as she grew up, she was good in this regard. She had received a good education in America, it was going well. This is the ideal, after all. She chased after ideals; she ran into the hell of the Middle East, and she was an idealist."

Mehmet Suat Eygi, who lives in the US city of Seattle, is accepting condolences at his ancestral home along with his daughter Ayşenur's Pakistani-origin husband, Hamid Mazhar Ali, and his other daughter, while her mother, Rabia Birden, who is divorced from her father, is accepting condolences with her relatives in Muğla. It was learned that Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi's funeral will arrive in Istanbul on Friday, then in Izmir, and will later be brought to Didim by road.

Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi's funeral will be buried in the Didim Asri Cemetery after the funeral prayer to be held at the central mosque following the noon prayer on Saturday, September 14.
