US Congress members call on Biden regarding 'Ayşenur Eygi'
In a letter sent to US President Joe Biden, US Senator Patty Murray and Representative Pramila Jayapal have called for an "independent, US-led investigation" into the death of Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, the Turkish-American activist killed by Israeli soldiers.
Democratic Representative Pramila Jayapal issued a written statement regarding the letter, which she co-signed with Senator Murray.
In the letter sent to US President Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Murray and Jayapal emphasized that those responsible for Eygi's killing must be held accountable.
The two representatives, who serve the state of Washington where Eygi resided, stated in their joint letter that they do not find Israel's investigation sufficient, adding: "Therefore, we are calling for an immediate, transparent, credible, comprehensive, and independent US investigation led by the FBI."
The two members of Congress also demanded that the results of the US-led independent investigation be clearly documented and provided in writing to Eygi's family.
Mentioning the names of other American citizens previously killed by Israeli soldiers, Jayapal and Murray emphasized that Rachel Corrie, who was killed in 2003, also lived in Washington state and was killed unjustly and without provocation.
Eygi (26) was shot in the head and killed by an Israeli sniper on September 6 during an anti-occupation protest in the town of Beita, near Nablus, in the occupied West Bank.
