Restrictions on those supporting Ekrem İmamoğlu on social media! Accounts are being shut down

A profile picture campaign launched to support Ekrem İmamoğlu has run afoul of social media platform X's rules. It has been reported that many accounts have been suspended on the grounds of "fake identity" and "impersonation."

The account of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is being held at the Silivri Marmara Prison, has been restricted. When users accessed Mayor İmamoğlu's profile, they were met with the warning: "In response to a legal demand, access to @ekrem_imamoglu has been withheld in Turkey."

Following this development, many users supporting Mayor İmamoğlu changed their profile pictures to a photo of him. However, the support campaign led to unintended consequences.

X IS SUSPENDING ACCOUNTS

X has begun suspending users' accounts. According to X's rules, it is prohibited to use "stock, stolen, or AI-generated profile photos with the intent to deceive others." X classifies these accounts as "fake identity" or "impersonation."
