Fatma Karanfil laid to rest

72-year-old actress Fatma Karanfil, who brought the character of Şayeste to life in the series Aşk-ı Memnu, was laid to rest following a funeral prayer held at the Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa Mosque in Levent after the noon prayer. Karanfil's body was interred at the Feriköy Cemetery.

Actress Fatma Karanfil, who brought the character of Şayeste to life in the Aşk-ı Memnu series and had been receiving treatment for cancer for some time before being intubated on May 25, has passed away at the age of 72.

A funeral ceremony was held for the veteran actress at the Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa Mosque. Condolences were accepted by Karanfil's nieces, Aslı Karanfil and Elif Karanfil, along with her spouse and children.

MANY ACTORS ATTENDED

In addition to family members, the ceremony was attended by General Manager of State Theaters Tamer Karadağlı, General Manager of Cinema at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Birol Güven, actress Hülya Koçyiğit, actress Pınar Altuğ, and her loved ones.

Fatma Karanfil, who began her career after placing 3rd in the Ses magazine competition in 1968 and starred in Yeşilçam films such as Keloğlan and Mavi Boncuk, as well as major series like Aşk-ı Memnu and Çocuklar Duymasın, was laid to rest at the Feriköy Cemetery following the funeral prayer held after the noon prayer.

'WE LOST HER WITHIN 10 DAYS'

Her niece Elif Karanfil, who accepted condolences, said, "She had cancer; it had recurred but showed no symptoms. We learned that the cancer had completely spread in the last month and a half. Unfortunately, we are here today. You all already knew about the 1.5-month process, the tests, the hospital, the intensive care, and that she was intubated. Unfortunately, we lost her within 10 days."
