A new development has occurred regarding the case of sisters Bahar Candan and Nihal Candan, who were arrested on November 16, 2023.
The lawyer for sisters Bahar Candan and Nihal Candan, who were arrested for 'money laundering' as part of an investigation conducted by the Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, went to the Küçükçekmece Courthouse today and submitted a petition to the prosecutor's office to appeal their detention.
The prosecutor's office is expected to announce its decision shortly.
WHY WERE THE CANDAN SISTERS ARRESTED?
Social media influencers Bahar and Nihal Candan, who were detained in Istanbul on charges of “being a member of a criminal organization and laundering assets derived from crime,” were ordered to be arrested.
The prosecutor's testimony of the Candan sisters, who were arrested on November 16, 2023, has also emerged.
Bahar Candan stated that she attended the dinner meetings where the gang convinced victims, along with her sister, as a face of the brand for a fee of 10 thousand TL. She claimed she did not know that crimes were being committed at the dinner tables.
"THEY ARE PHOTOSHOP"
Bahar Candan denied allegations that she and her sister Nihal Candan served as a money vault for the criminal organization's storefront. Regarding the photos of a bag full of money and a helicopter that she shared on her social media account, Bahar Candan said, “They are Photoshop.”
Bahar Candan defended herself by saying, “I don't have a luxurious lifestyle.”
She said that her idols are rich people, that she tries to look rich, and that behaving this way makes her very happy.
'I WISH I HAD NEVER MET HIM'
Regarding her connection with gang leader Onur Apaydın, Bahar Candan gave the defense: “I knew his name as Kaan, it turns out this was a lie, his real name was Onur Apaydın. He was my sister's boyfriend, their relationship lasted for a year, then he started talking to me, we also went out to dinner together, I wish I had never met him.”
Nihal Candan gave a similar statement to her sister. She did not accept the accusations against her and said that her boyfriend, gang leader Onur Apaydın, had deceived her.
Following the prosecutor's interrogation, Bahar and Nihal Candan, along with other suspects, were referred to the duty court and arrested. After leaving the courtroom, Nihal Candan cried bitterly in the courthouse corridor, saying, “I don't want to go to prison, please.”
Bahar Candan, while being taken to prison, shouted, “The real criminals are outside, there is no money in my account.”
