Gag order from İlkim Karaca to Emrah Karaca: He committed psychological violence

İlkim Karaca, the wife of the famous artist Cem Karaca, who passed away in 2004, had previously applied to the court to stop the film 'Cem Karaca’s Tears', which was released on January 26 and stars İsmail Hacıoğlu, claiming it was filmed without her permission.

FILM REMOVED FROM THEATERS

The court had issued an injunction to remove the film from theaters in exchange for İlkim Karaca depositing a 3.5 million lira bond.

Following the removal of the film from theaters, İlkim Karaca requested protection against Emrah Karaca, the son of Cem Karaca from his third marriage to Feride Balkan, on the grounds that he had engaged in psychological violence by making statements against her.

FEAR OF PHYSICAL ATTACK

According to the petition submitted to the Istanbul Family Court, Emrah Karaca had made statements against İlkim Karaca before the court's decision to pull the film from distribution.

Allegedly, after the film was pulled from distribution, Emrah Karaca made a series of statements, spreading baseless claims and launching attacks against İlkim Karaca.

According to the report in Hürriyet, İlkim Karaca’s lawyer, Yasin Gökalp, stated in the petition that his client fears a potential physical attack by her stepson due to these remarks, saying, “We request that the necessary protective measures be taken to ensure the well-being of our client against potential dangers originating from Emrah Karaca.”

COURT GRANTS REQUEST

Accepting the request, the court ruled that Emrah Karaca must not engage in words or behaviors involving threats of violence, insults, humiliation, or belittlement toward İlkim Karaca for a period of 1 month, and must not disturb her via communication devices. The court also announced that if Karaca acts in violation of this decision, he will be punished with coercive imprisonment ranging from 3 to 10 days.

EMRAH KARACA APPEALS

Emrah Karaca, who appealed the decision, stated that İlkim Karaca is acting in bad faith and requested that the decision against him be overturned.

Emrah Karaca’s lawyer, Özgür Karaduman, stated in the appeal petition that İlkim Karaca had previously made baseless claims about his client and his mother, adding, “Other than the discussions taking place on social media, there is no encounter or contact between the client and İlkim Karaca. There is not even an implication of a threat toward İlkim Karaca in the client’s statements.”
