The film's screening had been halted: The German premiere of the movie 'Cem Karaca's Tears' was held

Cem Karaca’s wife, İlkim Karaca, had filed a lawsuit to halt the screening of the film 'Cem Karaca’s Tears,' which has now been released in Europe.

The film's European premiere was held in Berlin on February 8, marking the 20th anniversary of Cem Karaca's passing. The premiere, with European distribution handled by AF Media, was attended by Cem Karaca’s son, Emrah Karaca, and the film's lead actor, İsmail Hacıoğlu.

At the Alhambra Cinema, the audience gave a standing ovation to the artists who took the stage at the end of the film, as well as to the film itself.

'HE WANTED TO RETURN TO HIS COUNTRY'

Some audience members shared their memories of Cem Karaca, who lived in exile in Germany for a time. Answering questions from the audience, Emrah Karaca frequently alluded to the attempts to halt the film's screening. When asked why the film only covers the period up to Cem Karaca's return to Turkey, Emrah Karaca replied:

"In the film, we focused on Cem Karaca’s longing for his homeland. My father was a successful artist in Germany as well. But despite this, he wanted to return to his country, and this was a sign that his love for his homeland prevailed. We said, 'A person can do anything for their family and their homeland,' and we showed this. Whatever Cem Karaca experienced was reflected in his face, his hair, and everything about him.

It is not easy to transfer all 59 years into a feature film. If we had made a film about his entire life, it would have resulted in 5-6 feature films. Then it would have been a documentary. My father went through very difficult days. As you know, we are having problems in Istanbul, but here, you are looking after him."

DEPOSITED 3.5 MILLION TL

Cem Karaca’s wife, İlkim Karaca, had applied to the Istanbul Intellectual and Industrial Property Rights Court to stop the screening of the film 'Cem Karaca’s Tears.'

It was announced that if Karaca deposited a 3.5 million TL bond, a stay of execution order would be issued for the film.

'LEGALLY, THE FILM HAS BEEN HALTED'

İlkim Karaca deposited the money on the final day granted by the court, but the film's screening continued. İlkim Karaca’s lawyer, Yaşın Gökalp, had stated, "There is a confidentiality order on the case file. However, the bond has been deposited, and legally, the film has been halted. I don't know when the notification will reach them, but since it is currently being screened, a crime is being committed. We will initiate a process for this as well."

'IT IS A GOOD THING HE DID NOT WITNESS THIS DISLOYALTY'

İlkim Karaca had made the following statement to Arif Hür from 12punto in recent weeks:

"I was not asked for permission for this film. It saddened me to be ignored as his wife in an important film project depicting Cem's life. This situation would have also deeply wounded Cem. It is a good thing he did not witness this disloyalty..."
