In Caddebostan, Kadıköy, a group of young people forming the 'Istanbul Stars Group' performed Michael Jackson's "moonwalk" dance at traffic lights to highlight the daily ordeal of traffic congestion and to help prevent drivers from getting bored.
The young people, who knew when the red light would turn on, danced while holding a banner that read, 'We came for those bored in traffic.'
Some members of the group also gifted flowers and stress balls to drivers waiting at the red light.
'WE GATHERED TO MAKE HAPPINESS VISIBLE'
Emrullah Kavak, one of the members of the Istanbul Stars group, said, "As the stars of Istanbul, we have started a movement of happiness. We are a community consisting of Istanbul's youth. We gathered here with the aim of making kindness and happiness visible. We put on a show here today. We gathered to say 'forward, not backward' toward hope and happiness for people bored in traffic. As you know, in the moonwalk, the dancer moves forward while appearing to move backward, just like Michael Jackson.
We gathered to entertain people, those bored in traffic, with this show. Of course, the reactions are very positive. Their happiness made us happy as well. Naturally, drivers get very bored in traffic. We are performing these shows here to entertain them, to spread happiness to them, and to create a memory they won't forget.
We have performed these shows in various parts of Istanbul. We previously did them in Beşiktaş and Mecidiyeköy. Today, we are in Caddebostan. To make drivers in traffic happy. We also distributed stress balls to them. With this, we aim to increase happiness," he said.
