Journalist Tolga Şardan was arrested after an ex officio investigation was launched against him due to his article titled 'What is in the "judiciary report" submitted by the MIT to the Presidency?', on the grounds that it contained statements and declarations constituting the elements of the crime of "publicly disseminating misleading information."

"WE MUST PROTECT IT TOGETHER"

While reactions to Şardan's arrest poured in from journalist organizations, the opposition, and NGOs, one reaction also came from the ruling wing.

AKP member Şamil Tayyar made a statement on his social media account regarding Şardan's arrest.

Tayyar's statements are as follows:

"Even if it hurts us or touches our nerves, an arrest decision due to a column is a very harsh decision. However, an arrest decision is a measure that should be applied exceptionally, it is not a punishment. The law will be needed by everyone one day. We must protect it together."
