It had been alleged that Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who competed against Özgür Özel for the CHP chairmanship, would withdraw from the election because he could not secure an absolute majority in the first round. Kılıçdaroğlu later denied these claims by going to cast his vote. Adana Metropolitan Mayor Karalar confirmed that the issue of withdrawal had been discussed.

Adana Metropolitan Mayor Zeydan Karalar, who had sided with Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu from the very beginning at the 38th CHP Congress, confirmed that Kılıçdaroğlu's withdrawal from candidacy was brought to the agenda immediately after the first round of the CHP chairmanship election.
Noting that they discussed the matter among themselves, Zeydan Karalar stated, "it did not happen because the second round of elections had technically already begun."
