It has been noted that there are expectations within CHP circles that the conviction will be upheld in the case filed against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu for allegedly calling members of the Supreme Election Council (YSK) "fools."
In the case heard at the Istanbul Anatolian 7th Criminal Court of First Instance, İmamoğlu was sentenced to 2 years, 7 months, and 15 days in prison, along with a political ban.
95 PERCENT PROBABILITY OF UPHELD CONVICTION ACCORDING TO PARTY SOURCES
According to information obtained by Kısa Dalga from party sources, the information reaching the CHP indicates that the decision by the appellate court to uphold the given sentence is 95 percent certain.
While sources state that there is a possibility of a last-minute change, they consider this to be a very weak probability.
CHP DECIDES ON EMERGENCY MEETING
As these developments regarding the case continue, the CHP leadership has decided to hold an emergency meeting. In addition to Gül Çiftçi, Burhanettin Bulut, Ensar Aytekin, Gökhan Zeybek, and Gökhan Günaydın, İmamoğlu's lawyers are also expected to attend the meeting to be held at the CHP Headquarters. During the meeting, scenarios regarding a potential political ban and the upholding of the sentence against İmamoğlu will be evaluated.
GÖKHAN GÜNAYDIN: OUR PLANS A, B, AND C ARE READY
CHP Group Deputy Chairman Gökhan Günaydın connected to the Haber Masası program hosted by Buket Güler on Halk TV and announced that all scenarios against a potential political ban decision for İmamoğlu are ready. Günaydın stated that as a party, they will not leave any of their comrades alone and that they have plans A, B, and C in place.
In his statements, Günaydın said the following:
“The Republican People's Party is prepared against political ambushes targeting our Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. They will try, and we will show what we will do. In this process, we will not leave either Ekrem İmamoğlu or any other comrade of ours alone.”
'WE ARE PREPARED AGAINST POLITICAL AMBUSHES'
Emphasizing that the CHP is working in coordination with professionals and politicians during this process, Günaydın stated, "They are trying to block the path of our Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, who has defeated Erdoğan three times in these lands. Today they are doing it to Ekrem İmamoğlu, tomorrow they will do it to Mansur Yavaş or Özgür Özel. However, the CHP has the strength and determination to respond to such attacks as a whole."
