Claims that sentences in İmamoğlu's 'Fool Case' have been finalized: Statement from his lawyer

A response has come from his lawyer, Kemal Polat, regarding claims that the prison sentence and political ban imposed on İmamoğlu have been finalized.

In a statement made on social media, Polat said, "This unlawful decision has already been overturned by the conscience of the public; I hope and wish that the judiciary will not allow this lawlessness any further."

In his statement, Polat described reports claiming that "the sentence in the fool case has been finalized and upheld..." as 'fake news'.

"THE JUDICIARY WILL NOT ALLOW IT"

In the full text of his statement, where he said, "This unlawful decision has already been overturned by the conscience of the public," Polat stated the following:

"To those who create and spread operational fake news such as 'the sentence in the fool case has been finalized and upheld...'; if your intention is to accustom minds to lawlessness or to encourage someone to carry out this lawlessness, be sure that it will not work. This unlawful decision has already been overturned by the conscience of the public; I hope and wish that the judiciary will not allow this lawlessness any further."

WHAT HAPPENED?

Following the decision to sentence İmamoğlu to 2 years, 7 months, and 15 days in prison and impose a 5-year political ban, the İmamoğlu camp appealed the decision to the Regional Court of Justice.

However, while the file was awaiting review at the Regional Court of Justice, changes were made to the panel of the Regional Court of Justice.

While the file is still awaiting review by the Regional Court of Justice, İmamoğlu, who made statements on the subject, said, "In my opinion, I do not know if there is a more baseless, shameful case in the history of the Turkish judiciary.

There is so much injustice and lawlessness, but this is not even a case. We are following the process at the Regional Court of Justice. There is a decision from the lower court, and there is a higher court according to the decision at the Regional Court of Justice.

I hope the judiciary will make a fair decision here. It will send a good message to both us and our nation. It should not become a tool of politics for nothing. I am not talking about whether Ekrem İmamoğlu came out of this politically profitable or at a loss. Let our country win, and for our country to win, justice must prevail," he said.
