The CHP's decision to re-nominate Hatay Mayor Lütfü Savaş for the March 31 elections had been met with significant backlash.
Metropolitan Mayor Lütfü Savaş, who was subjected to protests by citizens during the February 6 commemoration program, made a statement on his social media account.
Addressing the reactions directed at him, Savaş used the following expressions:
My dear fellow citizens; while we mourn the loss of tens of thousands of our lives today, we will not give an opportunity in Hatay to those who knowingly and intentionally try to turn our pain into political material. No political gain is more valuable than Hatay.
Our pains and our joys are shared. No matter what they do, we will not be divided and we will always remain standing through solidarity.
Tomorrow at 15:00, I will hold a press conference regarding the current situation in Hatay and the work we will carry out from now on."
