Exactly 1 year has passed since the February 6 earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş. A memorial ceremony was held in Hatay, one of the cities most affected by the disaster, for those who lost their lives on the first anniversary of the catastrophe.
Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Lütfü Savaş also attended the ceremony. In the footage recorded by journalist Kazım Kızıl, Savaş encountered a major protest in the ceremony area. Earthquake survivor citizens booed Savaş and chanted slogans of 'resign'.
Caught in the middle of the protest, Savaş was removed from the ceremony area with difficulty.
Savaş's re-nomination by the CHP had caused controversy.
