The winner of the Democrat Party's eventful congress has been determined. The incumbent chairman, Gültekin Uysal, has been re-elected.

At the congress, 778 out of 1,208 delegates cast their votes. Gültekin Uysal, who received 765 votes, was re-elected as chairman.

Making his first statement after winning the election, Uysal said, "We have experienced a beautiful day together. We have reinforced our will, our unity of heart, and our unity of mind. You have put forth a will to change the history of this great country once again and to write a new history. I am grateful to you all. In this process, which we started by saying 'The word belongs to the nation again,' we will speak on behalf of the nation."

CONGRESS DECISION HAD CAUSED CONTROVERSY

The surprise congress decision made by Democrat Party Chairman Gültekin Uysal had caused controversy within the party.

The Democrat Party Deputy Chairman and Istanbul MP, along with Democrat Party Izmir MP Salih Uzun, announced that they would not attend the congress and had decided not to take on any duties at the event.
