Interior Minister Yerlikaya: 'We have achieved a 47 percent decrease in theft crimes'

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that there has been a 47 percent decrease in theft crimes this year compared to the first 7 months of last year. Providing information to members of the press following the Security Meeting held in Yozgat, Minister Yerlikaya emphasized that the Century of Turkey would be a period of peace, stating that as the Ministry of Interior, they are focused on peace, security, and well-being.

Minister Yerlikaya stated that the Ministry of Interior is fulfilling its duty to prevent crime in the best possible way, saying, “We are working to prevent crime with strong and resilient coordination in the field. In the first 7 months of this year, we have achieved a 47 percent reduction in crime types such as residential burglary, motorcycle theft, auto theft, and workplace theft compared to last year.” He also drew attention to the number of people in prisons for drug and theft offenses.

WE ARE CHALLENGING HUMAN SMUGGLING

Touching upon the fight against human smuggling, Minister Yerlikaya expressed that they are maintaining a determined stance against organizers. “We are challenging human smuggling organizers. We advise those who have not yet gone to prison not to engage in this business,” said Yerlikaya, noting that sentences have been increased from 5 to 8 years and that captured organizers are being directly arrested.

Providing information regarding traffic and patrol numbers, Yerlikaya said that improvements would be made in the number of vehicles and personnel. Stating that the number of day and night traffic patrols in Yozgat will be increased, Minister Yerlikaya announced that the current number of 21 patrols will be raised to over 60 and that the number of gendarmerie patrols will be increased 3.5-fold. It was emphasized that these goals will be achieved with new vehicles and equipment.
