İYİ Party Group Deputy Chairman Turhan Çömez has directed serious questions regarding the toilet renovation carried out at the Presidency of Religious Affairs' headquarters in Ankara through a post on his social media account and a parliamentary question submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Çömez shared the details of this controversial expenditure with the public and demanded an explanation from the authorities.

Turhan Çömez stated that 7 million TL was spent on the renovation of 13 toilets in the Presidency of Religious Affairs' 20-year-old building. In the motion submitted by Çömez, allegations were also included that the tender was conducted via invitation and that the renovation work was awarded to a company belonging to the son of Memur-Sen Deputy Chairman Hacı Bayram Tombul.

"WHAT IS THIS OBSESSION WITH LUXURY TOILETS?"

Çömez included the following statements in his social media post:

“We understood the obsession with luxury cars, but what is this obsession with luxury toilets? You are renovating the toilets of a brand-new building; 7 million TL has been spent on the renovation of 13 toilets. Moreover, the tender was awarded via invitation to the son of a union deputy chairman. We thought we would ask on your behalf: What is the truth behind this?”

The motion submitted to Parliament includes the following questions:

  • On which dates was the headquarters building of the Presidency of Religious Affairs constructed?
  • Is the information that the building is only 20 years old correct?
  • Was 7 million TL really spent on the renovation of 13 toilets? Was this budget covered by the Presidency of Religious Affairs' budget or the Turkey Diyanet Foundation's budget?
  • What method was used for the tender, and which companies were invited?
  • Does the winning company of the tender belong to the son of Memur-Sen Deputy Chairman Hacı Bayram Tombul?

WHAT IS THE REASON FOR THE 42 PERCENT INCREASE IN THE BUDGET?

Çömez also reminded that there is a 42 percent increase in the 2025 budget of the Presidency of Religious Affairs compared to 2024, emphasizing that it should be explained which items this increase will be spent on.
