Independent Ankara MP Yüksel Arslan, who resigned from the İYİ Party before the March 31 Local Elections by saying, "We must support Mansur Yavaş," has sparked a crisis with a post on his social media account.

Arslan, who once served as the chief of staff to ABB Mayor Mansur Yavaş, "Someone whose only concern is their own career and following a path drawn for them is called a 'Project Child,' not a 'Soldier of Mustafa Kemal'" was alleged to be targeting IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu in the post where he used these expressions.

YAVAŞ'S 'DELETE THE TWEET' REACTION

Quoting Arslan's post, Yavaş stated, "My advice to him is to delete this tweet" he said.

Arslan, who resigned from the presidency of the ASKİ Sports Club following Yavaş's reaction, has broken his silence regarding the ongoing controversy.

"THEY ARE ATTACKING YAVAŞ THROUGH ME"

Speaking toSözcü, Arslan responded to the question, "Who were you referring to?" as follows:

"I wrote it in a general sense. I did not think it would reach this point. What truly saddens me is that they are attacking Mansur Yavaş through me. A rift has opened between me and my mayor. I had no specific intent; I was expressing my opinion regarding those who act differently under the guise of an Atatürk identity. People who are to govern Turkey must move away from their past nostalgias. You may have stayed in the same dormitory or attended the same school, but the integrity of Turkey is at stake. Let those who feel targeted take it personally. From time to time, greetings are sent there, and from there, we receive news of martyrs."

"I DID NOT MEAN ANY INDIVIDUALS"

"We talk about an independent Turkey, and then we act differently... Will the grounded people of this country not notice? Am I not allowed to express my personal opinion? I am an independent member of parliament. I did not mean any individuals, and it deeply saddened me that the mayor was being undermined through me. I have also severed all my ties with the municipality."

Speaking about his resignation, Arslan said, "I have also officially resigned from my position as President of ASKİ Spor. The general assembly will make a decision, and I will sign it as well" he stated.

Arslan, "Did you speak with Mansur Yavaş after the tweet?" responded to the question as follows:

"He probably didn't call so we wouldn't hurt each other, and I didn't call him either."
