Biden's statement on Syria: Turkish government's actions threaten stability and security
US President Joe Biden has decided to extend the "national emergency" declared to deal with the "unusual and extraordinary" threat to American national security and foreign policy originating from Syria.

According to a statement shared by the White House, Biden informed Congress that he would extend the duration of the executive order he issued on October 14, 2019, to address developments within Syria and the "unusual and extraordinary" threat to US national security and foreign policy originating from that country.

Biden argued that "the actions taken by the Turkish government to launch a military offensive into northeast Syria undermine the peace, stability, and security of the region and weaken the fight against ISIS," and claimed that the current situation in and concerning Syria continues to pose "an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States."
For this reason, Biden noted that he has decided to extend the state of emergency, which was set to expire on October 14, 2023, for another year.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ambassador Tanju Bilgiç, in a statement regarding the renewal of the Presidential Executive Order published by the US under the title of "National Emergency" in the context of Syria, said, "We expect the US to end its engagement with the separatist terrorist organization and to fulfill the provisions of the Joint Statement dated October 17, 2019."
In his response to a question regarding the renewal of the US Presidential Executive Order in the context of Syria, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Bilgiç stated, "Operation Peace Spring, which is the subject of baseless allegations in this Executive Order renewed by the US President, was essentially carried out in accordance with the right to self-defense stemming from Article 51 of the UN Charter and UN Security Council resolutions on combating terrorism, and has established an environment of peace and stability in the region.
It has dealt a blow to the terrorist activities of the PKK/YPG and ISIS terrorist organizations and removed them from our borders. It has contributed to the preservation of Syria's territorial integrity," he said.
Stating that "it would be more befitting of the deep-rooted and valuable relations between the two allies for the US to understand and support Turkey's policies that bring stability to Syria and prioritize the integrity of that country, rather than engaging in such unilateral actions," Bilgiç added, "In this framework, we expect the US to end its engagement with the separatist terrorist organization and to fulfill the provisions of the Joint Statement dated October 17, 2019."
