First comment from AKP on Israel's attack on Syria: Developments that will set the region on fire

AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik made statements regarding the agenda following the Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting at his party's headquarters.

Speaking about Israel's attack on international airports in Damascus and Aleppo in Syria, Çelik said, "There could be developments that will set the region on fire within a vicious cycle of violence and counter-violence. News of an attack on Damascus has arrived. It could drag the whole world into places no one wants."

"WE DO NOT ACCEPT CIVILIAN LOSS OF LIFE"

Evaluating the rising tension in the region since October 7, Çelik included the following remarks:

"(Palestine-Israel conflict) We do not accept the targeting of civilians. We oppose violence that targets innocent people. The images of civilians dying on both sides are distressing. We also oppose attacks targeting Israeli civilians. What is necessary is a political solution. Such a siege of Gaza is contrary to international law. Bombing them indiscriminately is absolutely unacceptable. Declaring all Palestinians guilty is a primitive approach. The EU is also participating in this collective punishment here.

There could be developments that will set the region on fire within a vicious cycle of violence and counter-violence. News of an attack on Damascus has arrived. It could drag the whole world into places no one wants. Everyone must avoid provocative statements."
