Headscarf decision in France: Aid to supporters will be cut

According to a report by the network of local and regional radio stations in France, France Bleu, 69 basketball clubs, 65 of which are in the Ile-de-France region, sent a letter to the French Basketball Federation (FBF) a few days ago.

In the letter, they requested that the federation amend its internal regulations to allow basketball players to wear headscarves during matches. Subsequently, the Ile-de-France region stated that it is "committed to secularism" and decided to stop the aid it provides to the basketball clubs in its region that support this move.

HEADSCARF WAS BANNED

While the French Football Federation and the FBF prohibit athletes from wearing headscarves in matches, the French Handball Federation allows it. 

Due to the headscarf ban, veiled basketball players, including Salimata Sylla, are unable to participate in official matches. French athletes were banned from wearing headscarves at the Olympic Games to be held in Paris next year.
