According to a statement from the Imperial Household Agency, an official Instagram account belonging to the agency has been launched with the aim of 'increasing public awareness' of the Imperial family, particularly among the younger generation.

The account, which began posting as of April 1, will feature events attended by family members, including Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako.

The first 20 posts on the account featured photos and videos of Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan performing their official duties in public spaces between January and March.

'HOPES TO SPARK INTEREST'

The agency's statement included the expression, "By joining social media, the organization hopes to spark interest among younger generations regarding what the Imperial family does."

It was noted that the account will also feature the activities of Crown Prince Fumihito and Crown Princess Kiko in the future.

The agency had established an official press and public relations office in April 2023 to increase its reach to the public.
