More than 20 percent of Germans face the risk of poverty or social exclusion
It has been announced that 17.7 million people in Germany faced the risk of poverty or social exclusion in 2023. This means that one in every 7 people in the country is facing the threat of poverty.

The results of a study conducted by the Federal Statistical Office, based in Wiesbaden, regarding income and living conditions in the European Union have been released.
According to the study results, 17.7 million people in Germany, corresponding to 21.2 percent of the population, faced the risk of poverty or social exclusion in 2023.
It was noted that there was no significant change in these figures compared to the previous year.
12 MILLION PEOPLE COULD REMAIN POOR
The study revealed that 14.3 percent of the population, or nearly 12 million people, faced the risk of poverty in 2023. This means that one in every 7 people in the country is facing the threat of poverty.
In 2022, the rate of those facing the risk of poverty was 14.8 percent.
It was stated that severe material and social deprivation affected 6.9 percent of the population, or 5.7 million people. In 2022, this figure was 6.2 percent.
It was noted that those affected by poverty were unable to pay their rent, could not afford a one-week vacation, or could not even go out to eat once a month.
THIS FIGURE WAS 9.8 PERCENT IN 2022
The study results also reflected that 9.8 percent of the population under 65, or 6.2 million people, lived in households with very low labor market participation. In 2022, this figure was 9.8 percent.
It was stated that when calculating the study results, anyone with less than 60 percent of the average income is considered to be at risk of poverty.
In 2023, this figure was calculated as 1,310 euros net per month for those living alone, and 2,751 euros per month for two adults with two small children.
