Unprecedented incident in Germany: Employee hangs own painting in art gallery without permission
A staff member at a modern art museum in Germany displayed his own work within the museum's collection, which includes pieces by painters such as Picasso and Dali. Museum officials, who noticed the painting did not belong to the collection, fired the employee.
A staff member at the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich, Germany, one of Europe's largest modern art galleries, has been fired after it was discovered that he had displayed his own work in the gallery.
The 51-year-old museum employee drilled two holes in the wall to hang his 60x120 cm artwork in the gallery. Local media reported that the gallery employee made the move in the hope of having his art discovered.
Gallery spokesperson Tine Nehler stated that the work in question remained on display for only a short time and noted that gallery officials would quickly notice such a situation.
HE LOST BOTH HIS JOB AND...
According to a report by BBC Türkçe, the artwork was returned to the gallery employee. However, the employee not only lost his job but was also banned from entering the gallery.
The Pinakothek der Moderne gallery also houses works by artists such as Pablo Picasso, Max Ernst, and Salvador Dalí.
'WE WOULD LIKE TO MEET THE ARTIST'
In October, it was revealed that an employee at the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn, Germany, one of the country's most visited museums, had also displayed his own painting in a gallery.
The gallery shared a message on its social media account stating, "We thought it was funny and we would like to meet the artist. Get in touch! No hard feelings, we promise."
