Automatic transmission vehicle sales are rising in Turkey! How many were sold?

Sales of automatic transmission cars in Turkey have established complete dominance in the F, E, and D segments. While one in every two vehicles had a manual transmission in the first quarter of 2015, the market share of manual transmission cars has fallen to single digits as of the end of March this year.

According to data from the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), the total market for automobiles and light commercial vehicles in Turkey reached 295 thousand 519 units in the first quarter of 2023, an increase of 25.2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. Automobile sales increased by 33.05 percent to 233 thousand 389 units, while light commercial vehicle sales increased by 2.6 percent to 62 thousand 130 units.

As of the end of March, the market share of automatic transmission cars rose to 89.3 percent, while the share of manual transmission cars fell to 10.7 percent. Accordingly, 9 out of every 10 cars sold were recorded as having automatic transmissions.

When examined by segment, the share of automatic transmission cars in the ultra-luxury (F), luxury (E), and upper-middle (D) segments reached 100 percent. Automatic transmission car sales accounted for 97.4 percent in the A segment, 94.8 percent in the B segment, and 84.2 percent in the C segment.

While the downward trend in the market share of manual transmission cars continues, the preference for automatic transmissions in the automotive market is steadily increasing due to the rise in the production and sales of automatic transmission cars.
