Automotive giant decides to withdraw from the market

Honda has decided to end its 23-year presence in the South Korean automotive market. The company's South Korean unit announced that car sales will be completely halted by the end of 2026. This surprise decision has caused a significant stir in the automotive sector.

At a press conference held in Seoul, Honda Korea CEO Lee Ji-hong cited market volatility, fluctuations in exchange rates, and new conditions brought about by global competition as the primary reasons for this decision. Industry representatives, meanwhile, agree that the rising influence of Chinese automakers in the market played a significant role in this move.

According to the point emphasized in the company's statement, even after car sales end, Honda will continue to provide after-sales service and support to its existing customers in the same manner. Stating that current users will not be left at a disadvantage, Honda officials reported that service operations will continue without interruption.

At the same time, Honda aims to maintain its strong position in the South Korean motorcycle market and intends to strengthen its strategy by focusing on this area. The withdrawal from the automotive sector does not mean the company will end all its operations in the country; wishing to maintain its leadership in the motorcycle segment, Honda plans to improve its brand perception and sales superiority in this field.

Honda first entered the South Korean market in 2001 with motorcycles and began car sales two years later. Having sold approximately 108 thousand 600 cars in South Korea to date, the brand made its primary breakthrough in the motorcycle segment, reaching a figure of 420 thousand 600 units.
