The age limits for obtaining a driver's license in Turkey were changed with a new regulation published on December 9, 2024.
This decision provides significant convenience, especially for young drivers.
The age limit for M, A1, and B1 class licenses has now been lowered to 16. Thus, young people who have turned 16 will be able to obtain a license to operate vehicles such as mopeds, 125 cc motorcycles, and four-wheeled motorcycles.
Additionally, the age for D-class licenses has been reduced from 26 to 24.
This change is also an important step for those who wish to drive buses and large vehicles used for commercial passenger transport.
For other license classes, the 18-year age limit continues to apply. While the age limit for A2, B, BE, C1, C1E, F, and G classes is set at 18, this age limit has been increased to 20 for A-class licenses.
For D1 and D1E classes, a 21-year age requirement is sought. For DE-class licenses, the age limit remains at 24.
In addition, a change has been made regarding driver's license renewal procedures.
Drivers who have turned 65 will be required to obtain a medical report every 5 years instead of every 3 years to renew their licenses. However, for drivers over the age of 80, health checks will be conducted every 2 years.
